Contouring was once a technique reserved solely for makeup artists, but it has since become a huge movement in the makeup world. Last year we were all about getting that perfect eyebrow arch, and this year we want those chiselled cheekbones! Googling contouring tips and watching beauty gurus on youtube can be overwhelming to say the least, do we really need to paint white and brown stripes all over our faces?! Of course, if we’ve got all day to prep for a night out, then why not! But for an everyday look it doesn’t have to be that complicated. You just need to remember what you’re actually trying to achieve; contouring (and highlighting) is simply adding natural looking highlights and shadows on your face to create a more sculpted look.
Choosing the right product is essential, it’s what’s going to take your contour from orange streaky stripes to flawless looking cheekbones! For this we love the La Biosthetique Contour Powder; it has everything you need to create natural shadows, a gorgeous highlight, and a flush of colour. We especially love the cool toned matte contour powder, it’s so important to remember you shouldn’t use a warm toned shimmery bronzer. The only other thing you need is a small angled brush to apply your contour. With a light hand you just need to sweep it under your cheekbones – without coming too far in to your face. The pros say that a contour should end where you the tail of your eyebrow finishes but you’ll be able to see what looks best for you. From here you just need to blend the product out to avoid having a harsh line, and then blend some more (trust me). To finish your look you can dust the highlighting shade over the tops of your cheekbones and on your brow bone, and then add the pretty pop of pink to the apples of your cheeks. And voila – a sculpted, glowy face!
