Here at H&B we passionate about ecologically sustainable practices that minimise harm to our environment. We are committed to doing our best to run a sustainable and eco-friendly salon and were the first salon in New Zealand to use The Big Towel Company's eco-friendly bio-degradable towels and capes. This reduces the amount of water and electricity used to launder towels, and the amount of chemicals contaminating the environment.

Out-of-date magazines are donated to the local hospital or doctor's surgeries and the salon makes iPads available for clients to read magazine subscriptions reducing the number of hard copy magazines we use. Our stylists car pool, walk or bike to work wherever possible.

We stock La Biosthetique products as they are ethically produced, not tested on animals and eco-friendly. The organic products within the range carry Eco-Cert® accreditation.

We are routinely educated and reminded of ecologically friendly practices. We choose to work only with those suppliers who have a similar ecological ethos, such as China White Organic Tea and Cafe L’affare.

We were the first salon in New Zealand to use The Big Towel Company's eco-friendly bio-degradable towels and capes. This reduces the amount of water and electricity used to launder towels, and the amount of chemicals contaminating the environment. Ecoheads have been installed on all basins which makes water use more efficient. A re-fill service for clients on shampoos and pump bottles is offered.

The salon was architecturally designed to incorporate energy saving ideas at all levels. Clients can take their bio-degradable towels and gowns home to use as cleaning cloths or weed mats. Any other uncontaminated towels are used to clean the salon, and gowns are donated to city parks for weed mats. Towels and gowns that are not reused are decomposed by naturally occurring micro-organisms into CO2 and water.

We work hard to avoid producing excess waste, and to reduce and creatively reuse waste where it is unavoidable, as well as to recycle wherever possible. Packaging from manufacturers is reused for orders in the salon's on-line store, and out-of-date posters are used as wrapping paper. Clients are asked if they need a bag for products and a receipt, rather than automatically being handed them and we receive invoices and statements electronically.
