Our Experience at HAIR The Movement Sydney

Our Experience at HAIR The Movement Sydney

In September, Carla and Megan headed across the ditch to Sydney for something truly special: HAIR The Movement. Over three days, more than 35 master hairdressers from around the world came together to share their craft, their stories, and their vision for the future of hairdressing.

Day 1 – Learning from the Masters

The event began with a day of “watch and learn.” On stage, groups of three hair artists at a time demonstrated everything from precision cutting and advanced colour to modern barbering. What stood out was watching each model come to life from start to finish, not just the final result but every step along the way. For us, it was a reminder of how much care and intention sits behind every look we create in the salon.

Day 2 – Choice and Creativity

Day two meant choices, with three different rooms running at once, each with its own group of international legends. It was almost impossible to decide where to be. Megan was captivated by Kevin Murphy’s styling session, where he revealed the tips and tricks behind soft waves, dramatic volume, and even big 80s curls. Sharon Blain, a long-time inspiration in the industry, elevated classic up-dos into something extraordinary, showing how much artistry goes into creating timeless styles.

That evening, we were swept into NOISE, an underground avant-garde hair show that was kept a secret until the night itself. Imagine bold, boundary-pushing looks, loud music, and an atmosphere of pure creativity. It was raw, electric, and unforgettable, the kind of experience that reminds you why you fell in love with this industry in the first place.

Day 3 – Wisdom and Vision

The final day brought us back to the heart of the craft: people. Carla joined a panel of salon owners to share the realities of leading a team and running a salon in today’s industry. Hearing different perspectives and connecting with like-minded leaders was energising and affirming. At the same time, Megan listened to the panel of master stylists talk through their journeys, challenges, and hopes for the future of hairdressing. The common thread was clear. No matter how long you have been in the game, you are always learning and growing.

What We Took Away

Events like HAIR The Movement are more than education. They are a celebration of community. Watching master stylists still learning from one another was inspiring. It reminded us that growth never stops, and that sharing knowledge is how we all get better.

We came home buzzing with new ideas, creative energy, and a fresh appreciation for the power of hair to connect people. That inspiration is already flowing into the work we do at Hair Art & Beauty, and we cannot wait for you to see and feel it at your next visit.
